What's in a name?

Sebastiana Telphusa.

That was the name I conjured to be my pen name way back in high school when I day dreamed about becoming a writer.

I thought the name sounded sophisticated.  Cosmopolitan. Like I lived in Paris instead of podunk Winfield.

I practiced signing it over and over again, making sure the flourish of my contrived name looked just so.  Not too much flourish otherwise the name would be illegible.  But just enough to give it a je ne sais quoi kind of allure.

I know.  Ridiculous.

But now I really do need a pen name.

Any suggestions?

  1. I never practiced a pen name but I did write my a's over and over again so they looked like this:a instead of the rounder version. I posted it elsewhere but initials are great to use. If you pick a name pick one in the earlier half of the alphabet. When I browse I start with the A's and never make it to the Z's. Also, just like they say when picking a baby's name: Say the whole name out loud (as if it was being called at high school graduation) or ask a five year old to make fun of it. If they can't come up with much it is a good name. Good luck!
